What Is Your Biggest MLM Phobia?

August 20, 2008 | By Monika Mundell | No Comments »

mlm phobia The number one reason why most people (including me) fail in mlm is fear. We all fear things. Whether it be talking to people on the phone, cold calling, face to face talks, distributing out marketing materials, or mentoring our down line, most of us have an area that we rather suppress.

Trouble is, when we suppress things we tend to blow them up and soon enough a midget becomes an elephant. In mlm, this could quickly snowball and before you know it, you have effectively paralyzed yourself due to over analysing things.

When you think about it, I’m sure you have been in those situations before. My own biggest fear was cold calling people on the phone and talking to strangers on the street. You might have been told about the 5 foot rule in your own mlm.

That is when you try to hit on anything that moves within a 5 feet radius. Not a particular nice thing to do, especially if your hands get all sweaty, your heart starts racing 200 beats per minute and you want nothing more than to stick your head in the sand and forget all about it.

When we are afraid of things we freeze up. Our body goes into survival mode and all we can think of is the nearest exit to flee.

Some say, you have to train your phobias and take charge of them. But this is easier said than done.

What if your integrity screams "ABUSE"? If you are dead set against those practices from a personal belief, there is no way you will overcome those phobias. It took me some time to realize this myself, but when I did, I felt great.

At least I knew there was nothing wrong with me. So, what is your phobia?

Why I Quit MLM

August 16, 2008 | By Monika Mundell | No Comments »

I quit mlm for many reasons. But first and foremost it was because I couldn’t turn my head on the company’s shoddy deals anymore. When I first joined my mlm company back in 2004 I was excited and positively green behind my ears.

I didn’t realize that behind closed doors there was a totally different scenario than what was presented to opportunity seekers at our company’s outings. It also took me a long while to understand that our leaders were in fact nothing but very good scam artists.

They would smile you in the face while scamming you left, right and center to buy expensive and unnecessary business tools to fatten their own pockets for extra profit.

Little did I know of the wars that were going on behind closed doors.

I guess the final straw snapped when I was lured into attending a Vegas convention which was the biggest waste of time ever. Not only was the whole event geared toward the U.S market (I’m in Australia), but when I decided to sit with my friends away from the pack at the back of the room, I got reprimanded by my upline for doing just so. And here I was thinking I ran my own business.

Soon enough I started to see the finer aspects of my business and the more I saw, the less I liked what I was doing. To mention that I had allowed myself to be brainwashed is an understatement.

What was once a love relationship with my mlm business soon turned to contempt and eventually hate. I knew then I had to get out.

That is exactly what I did. The day I severed my ties with the company was the best day of my life (ok maybe not). But it sure as hell felt great, because a huge weight was lifted from my mind.

Gone were the financial pressures, the antipathy against calling clients on the phone, the antiquated marketing systems - I was told to doing flyers for god’s sake! And gone were also the people that had started to piss me off. Especially the leaders at the very top who were consciously milking us for all we were worth.

That was why I got out of mlm. I had lost my faith in the business model, plus it just wasn’t me.

Why did you get out? Or why are you still in? Please let me know.

Controversial YTB Court Case

August 13, 2008 | By Monika Mundell | No Comments »

YTB International, based in IL, USA is currently involved in a rather controversial court case. As with many mlm companies, they are being accused of operating an illegal pyramid scheme, rather than acting like proper mlm company.

Some even go as far as calling them operators of a card mill that encourages YTB agents to score free travel or heavy reduced trips.

When you look at a recent report by the MLM Watchdog, you can see that the percentage of income on marketing commissions clearly overrides that of travel commissions. This of course looks very dodgy. As far as I can remember, legal mlm companies focus on retail, rather than commissions.

The YTB stock which is being traded over the counter has also received a heavy wake up call with it being around $1.24 on July 15th to being at $8 one year ago.

The question remains, is YTB a pyramid scam, operating under the heavy disguise of mlm, or are they unluckily caught in the fire of disgruntled ex operators - who perhaps weren’t realistic enough about going into business for themselves?

It will be interesting to see what the California Attorney General decides once the court case has been heard.

What do you think? Is YTB real? Or are they dodgy?

Macau MLM Riots

August 8, 2008 | By Monika Mundell | No Comments »

On Friday 18 July, Macau experienced a riot from an angry mlm mob who turned out at the Triangle Park, in the city’s northern district to demonstrate their disapproval with the local government.

Apparently Macau had passed a bill to criminalize pyramid schemes which forced several company closures earlier in the year when the law became reality. Many people lost their "jobs" which ultimately lead to the demonstration. This was the second demonstration.

Pyramid schemes are illegal in many countries world wide.

In Macau, a business is labelled a pyramid when it is selling physical goods and  involves a great number of people, who all have to pay “joining fees” or “investment fees” when they sign up.

Apparently when the closures happened those leading the pack were doing a runner, leaving those below empty handed which resulted in the demonstration.

Sadly enough people were selling houses and cars to start their business and are now left empty handed.

I wonder when people are going to learn!

What Is Your MLM Attraction Factor?

August 6, 2008 | By Monika Mundell | No Comments »

What attracts you to mlm? Really? If you are totally honest with your intentions and motivation, what is that got you into mlm in the first place? Was it the money, the lifestyle, the quick riches (which you hoped would happen but never did), or was it simply the escape from your current 9-5?

And if you had a simple (or complicated) motivation to get into mlm, did it become true for you, or are you still chasing the rainbow?

What attracted me initially was the fact that I could work from home and become my own boss. I also loved the recognition factor of mlm, because I was never truly recognized for what I did at my job. Oh yes, I did get the papers, stating that I had worked at some pretty damn good eateries, but what is this really worth in reality?

You guessed right. Not much. It’s just a paper.

Recognition is so much more when it is celebrated in front of hundreds, if not thousands of people, but in the end, it is what it is.

When it boils down to it, we need to be happy at work, regardless, whether we work for a boss or at home. Since we spend so much time at work, it is more important than ever. We have become a tribe of workers. No longer are there weekends and holy Sunday’s. Today, it’s all about deadlines and more money.

So your mlm needs to give you enough to deal with that reality, while allowing you to pay the bills and have fun. Unfortunately, most of you will never experience this scenario.

Instead of finding the dream "job" people get burned and eventually turn away from mlm altogether.

Finding happiness with just about anything we do is like tasting wine. Some you like and some you don’t. in the end, you will have to sip, taste and decide whether you are happy with the choices you made.

MLM Rules Of Money Management

August 5, 2008 | By Monika Mundell | No Comments »

mlm rules of money management If you want to build an mlm business effectively you need to get serious with your money. Money management is often underestimated and overlooked by mlm and direct sales business owners worldwide.

You don’t have to be an accountant to make this work and with a few easy precautions you can be assured of having cash flow, rather than going bust.

The first rule of mlm money management

The first rule is quite clear, although it is the most dangerous one too. During your participation in your mlm business you will be asked to purchase company products. While this is alright in theory, it could proof destructive in reality.

And here is why: if you over commit your finances nothing good will happen to your business. To successfully grow any business you need to first earn money - before you spend it. Time and time again I see people fanatically buy everything they are told (naturally it is always in their own interest), yeah…. sure.

Be aware that you don’t need all of the tools that are being shopped to you at the back end. The sooner you realize that this is often how your upline increases their own profits, the sooner you will strengthen your changes of long term success in your mlm.

The second rule of mlm money management

Once you have a clear hold of your spending habit,

remember income + curbing your spending = cash flow…

… you can take charge of your finances. It might be a good idea to put aside a percentage of your income every months into a savings account. Some people choose to save 15% while others choose more or less.

This account can be used for holidays, special purchases or even retirement. It’s always good to have a backup plan, this includes finances too.

The third rule of mlm money management

Never commit all your savings into your mlm! I mean that. I nearly went bankrupt because I made that stupid mistake myself. I was blue eyed enough to believe pretty much everything I was told by my upline and got suckered into spending thousands of dollars for international events time and time again.

Ok, even though I have travelled the world with my mlm business I could have paid off my mortgage instead and once I was actually very close to faulting my mortgage payment because of that naïveté.

Forth rule of mlm money management

Don’t take everything at face value. Be smarter than me and always double check facts. Especially hype! Do not fall for hyped up events, messages and sales pitches.

I have and it cost me dearly.

If you use common sense there should be no reasons why you couldn’t become successful with your mlm business. Granted, your company has to be legal and there should be plenty of demand for the product or services you sell.

In the end, it always pays to be a little bit on the cautious side. It could save you a lot of money.

Dream Team Formula Dodgy First Impression

August 4, 2008 | By Monika Mundell | No Comments »

dream team formula I just happen to come across another one of those dodgy looking mlm schemes. The system in question is Dream Team Formula.

Upon closer inspection it looks just like another one of those automatic downline builders aka pyramid schemes.

Dream Formulas has a hyped up sales page and asks you to sign in for their free tour so that they keep sending you their over hyped messages as a result.

Sorry folks but this system doesn’t talk anywhere about a product and that to me clearly shows what they are really about. Plus, if you feel like parting with $97 followed by a monthly $27 subscription, please go ahead and get suckered right away out of your money.

To me, an legitimate mlm company first offers more upfront information, followed by clear info on the actual product that is involved. No matter how hard I look, I can’t seem to find later. Perhaps Dream Team Formula will no longer exist in two months time, once they sucked enough people out of their savings.

If they are legitimate, I’d like to see what the actual product is and how they intend for us to make those thousands of dollars.

As far as I’m concerned, the Dream Team Formula looks dodgy. What do you think?

Mary Kay’s New Virtual Makeover

July 30, 2008 | By Monika Mundell | No Comments »

Mary Kay offers a cool new tool on their website. It’s called a virtual makeover and allows women to play around with make-up colors, hairstyles and more. You can choose an existing model from the range provided, or else upload your own photo, then start getting creative.

The great thing about this tool is that it costs nothing, nadda..zip. I’ve seen similar tools before, selling for a lot of money. I think Mary Kay have hit on a home run with their virtual makeover tool because it is so neat to see how you look before you go to the hairdresser or use make up.

Here is what you can choose once the application has loaded:

  • hairstyle
  • make-up
  • hair color
  • highlights
  • lowlights
  • hair color
  • lip liner
  • eye color
  • eyeliner
  • mascara
  • cheek color
  • lip gloss
  • and more

See the next screen shot for a detailed look at the designer window.

All you girrrrls out there who always wanted to play around with make-up, now is your chance. Plus, you don’t even have to be 18. Not that this matters anyway.

Now, to be honest I’ve never been a girl who digs make-up. I consider myself beautiful by nature so why cover up my face with artificial gunk?

But now I can actually have a play to see how I would look if I was to succumb to the beauty industry’s call. For me, it’s nothing more than a fun exercise since I won’t go down that road - ever.

But for you, it might be the start of something new and fun.

Enjoy. Check out the pics below.

Laga Handbags - A New Kid On The Block

July 29, 2008 | By Monika Mundell | 2 Comments »

New mlm companies grow out of the woodworks like mushrooms in the forest. Just in the last three months alone, NPros reported some 30 new mlm companies. This equals around 10 new companies per month.

Whether they are all legal or lasting remains to be discovered of course since anybody can list their mlm on the NPros site.

One of those new listings is a company called Laga Handbags.

Laga Handbags are handmade by women who survived the 2004 tsunami in Indonesia. Every single bag sewn and sold through their direct selling marketing plan brings hope for a better tomorrow. Each bag of average size takes approximately one full day to complete.

Judging by the looks of the bags, they are amazing and made with love to represent individual works of art for the end user. Take a look yourself and see how stunning they look.

laga handbags mlm

Even the prices of the bags are well within range of something one would want to spend for a groovy and sexy looking bag. I can see many uses for these Laga Handbags. From everyday use to evening use to travel, they certainly have all covered.

Laga Handbags really do look very nice and will be appealing for many women. The material used in making the Laga embroidered bags is a nylon-polyester blend with a water-resistant 1/16” polyurethane backing. The lining inside our cosmetic bag and change purse is made of nylon. Their medium and larger bags are lined with satin and all four sizes of travel bags are padded with polyester batting for extra protection. The embroidery thread on all Laga bags is made of cotton.

At this stage it looks like the Laga Handbag is only open to people in the US. Although I couldn’t find any specific information on their site to back this up. One thing is for sure, Laga Handbags are made with the interest of the people in Indonesia at heart. helping the community to rebuild their lives after the devastating tsunami was the driving force behind launching this company.
